What is Reiki?
Reiki is a non-religious spiritual healing art with its roots in Japanese origin. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”. Reiki is a subtle and effective form of energy work using spiritually-guided life force energy to calm the mind, relax the body, and balance one’s energetic centers, which in turn, helps the mind, body, and spirit in healing.
Reiki does not involve any physical manipulation of the body. Reiki does not utilize either the client’s or the Practitioner’s energies, which means it can never be depleted.
Reiki practitioners cannot render medical diagnoses or treatments. Reiki is complementary to professional medical treatment but is not a substitute! Sapphire Spirit recommends that anyone under current medical supervision or who could benefit from medical attention should consult with their healthcare professional when considering Reiki.
Despite its recent emergence as a named practice, Reiki is based on principles thousands of years old. However, Reiki itself is not affiliated with any particular religion nor is it associated with any religious doctrines or precepts. Instead, it has grown and expanded as a non-intrusive relaxation and healing practice.
Since the founding of the first Reiki clinic in 1922 by Dr. Usui, the Reiki system and methods have become commonplace throughout the world. In the US alone, Reiki is practiced and taught in over 700 hospitals and clinics.
Why Choose Reiki
Reiki is an effective method for stress reduction, relaxation, and general well-being wellness that can be experienced by itself or in conjunction with a variety of energetic, meditative, and spiritual modalities and practices.
A Reiki session can help ease tension and stress, resulting in lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol, the hormone most often associated with which facilitates healing on all levels—physical, mental, and emotional.
Reiki Practitioners cannot diagnose or prescribe, and Reiki does not replace treatment provided by medical professionals.
Reiki, however, is a complement to traditional medicine and is performed or taught in over 700 hospitals and medical care facilities across the United States because the stress reduction it induces has been shown to facilitate healing.
What to Expect
Pre-Treatment
Prior to treatment, your Practitioner will discuss any prior energy treatment, any relevant issues you wish the Practitioner to focus on during the session, review your expectations, and answer any questions you may have. Please allow an additional 15 minutes for this pre-treatment consultation. Please allow an extra 15 minutes for your pre-treatment assessment.
Treatment
During a session, you will rest comfortably on a massage table with your shoes removed. If lying down is uncomfortable, your Practitioner also can perform Reiki while you are sitting comfortably in a chair.
Loose, comfortable clothing and clean socks are suggested. No articles of clothing are removed, and a client is always fully clothed.
A Reiki session can either be hands-on, where a Practitioner applies a light touch during the session, or hands-off where the Practitioner places his/her hands above the body without touch. It even can be performed without you being present in person! Simply inform the Practitioner whichever format you prefer before your treatment begins.
When the session begins, the Reiki Practitioner will proceed by progressing through specific Reiki hand positions beginning at the person’s head or mid-section. During a session, you may feel a warm or tingling sensation during the session or nothing at all but sheer relaxation. The session should be very pleasant, relaxing, and invigorating.
Reiki sessions are 60 to 90 minutes long, depending on the client’s preference. Reiki may be experienced with or without crystals, crystal grid(s), essential oils, sound therapy, intention manifestation rituals, and/or intuitive readings.
After Care
Reiki is a gentle energy that requires little to no after care beyond hydration. Clients are encouraged to hydrate frequently for three days following a Reiki session. Because Reiki energy triggers the relaxation response in addition to releasing chakra blocks and imbalances, clients sometimes report vivid dreams and periods of emotionality. Clients are encouraged to mindfully feel, express, and release these emotions as the body, mind, and spirit heals.
Reiki for Kids and Pets
Reiki is as beneficial for children as well as adults. Those under 18 who wish to receive Reiki are asked to provide written consent from a parent or guardian and must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18.
Animals, like people, can experience tension, anxiety, and energy imbalance. Just like people, many animals experience calming and relaxation when treated with Reiki. The duration and frequency of sessions varies based on the temperament, condition, and health of the animal.
Remote or Traditional Distant Reiki
For clients not wanting or not able to enjoy in-person treatment, Sapphire Spirit offers both Remote Reiki and Traditional Distant Reiki.
Long before the internet or COVID, Reiki Practitioners, beginning with its originator, Dr. Mikao Usui, performed Reiki on clients from a distance. Because energy is not bound by space or time, it is not necessary for the Practitioner and Client physically see or speak with each other!
- Remote Reiki, is where the Practitioner performs Reiki on a client during a live web session with the client in real-time online.
- Traditional Distant Reiki is when the Practitioner performs Reiki offline at a designated day and time using traditional Distant Reiki techniques. Distant Reiki also can be performed on the client or a friend or loved one as requested by the client.
How Many Sessions Do I Need?
How often one receives Reiki treatment varies. Many people seek Reiki to reduce or eliminate the effects of old trauma or injury, or to change a lifetime of behaviors, habits, or thought patterns.
While most individuals experience relaxation and refreshment after a single session, it may take multiple sessions to achieve deeper peace and balance. Fortunately, there are no adverse side effects to Reiki, no matter how often you receive Reiki
